The half man and half goat creature called “Goatman” is considered by some to be one of the more interesting cryptids and by others to be nothing more than an old story and hoax.
There are multiple theories associated with the Goatman one being that it was created by a U.S. Department of Agriculture scientists in Maryland named Stephen Fletcher during an experiment accident in which he mixed the DNA of a goat and a human likely his then assistant. The original sighting of the creature dates back to 1957 in Prince George’s County, Maryland and sightings continued through the years. There was a report in 1962 of 14 hikers being killed by the Goatman although it has yet to be substantiated.
Variations of the Goatman have also been reported in multiple states around the country, including the moderately popular Lake Worth Monster from Texas and the Pope Lick Monster from Kentucky. Many believe these creatures may be descendants of the original Goatman in Maryland. Here is a great look into the Goatman by Strange Mysteries Youtube channel which includes a map of alleged Goatman sightings and some of the alleged Goatman photos. There have been a few recent sightings of Goatman reported, although there has yet to be any substantial evidence found to prove the creature’s existence. The debate as to whether Goatman is an actual creature or simply a hoax continues !
