Back in 986 CE the Vikings led by Leif Ericson found themselves on the East Coast of North America which may have lead to the oldest account of Bigfoot ever recorded.
Ericson and his Viking people reported sightings of a creature that they described as being hairy, horribly ugly, and swarthy having huge black eyes. Leif also described these creatures as “hairy men” having a terrible smell and making loud piercing shrieks. They gave this creature the name “Skellring” and many believe that this creature they encountered is what we know today as Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Many believe this to be the first ever recording of a Bigfoot sighting in North America.
Other believe that these descriptions may have a totally different explanation and were not Sasquatch or any other mysterious creature. Some think these reports are possibly just the Aboriginals of the area playing tricks on the newly arrived Vikings by wearing large animal hides. Here is a very interesting video account of these Viking reports and sightings for you to decide for yourself if the Vikings possibly encountered Bigfoot.
